Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how ShortRest (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, shares, and protects personal information when you use our websites, mobile apps, and related services (the “Service”).
1. Information we collect
1.1 Information you provide
- Account details — name, email, phone number, nationality, password (stored hashed), and profile information.
- Host KYC — gender, date of birth, ID type and number, ID expiry, address details, and proof-of-address documents you upload for verification.
- Listings & bookings — room descriptions, photos, amenities, rates, booking times, amounts, and related messages.
- Payments & payouts — payment references, wallet activity, and bank details you submit for withdrawals (bank name, account name, account number).
- Support — emails and messages you send to hello@shortrestapp.com, host@shortrestapp.com, or in-app chat.
1.2 Information collected automatically
- Device & usage — app version, device type, OS, approximate diagnostics, and log data needed to run and secure the Service.
- Location — with your permission, we use location to show nearby rooms. You can disable location in device settings; some features may work less well without it.
- Cookies / similar tech — on shortrestapp.com and admin surfaces we may use essential cookies or local storage for sessions and preferences.
1.3 Information from third parties
- Google Sign-In — if you sign in with Google, we receive basic profile information such as name, email, and Google account identifier, as permitted by Google and your choices.
- Payment providers — payment status and references from processors such as Flutterwave (we do not store full card numbers on ShortRest servers when checkout is handled by the provider).
2. How we use information
- Create and manage accounts, bookings, chats, and host wallets.
- Verify hosts (KYC), prevent fraud, and review withdrawals.
- Process payments, subscriptions, and payouts.
- Show nearby listings and improve search relevance.
- Provide customer support and send service-related notices.
- Secure the Service, enforce Terms, and comply with law.
- Analyze aggregated usage to improve ShortRest (where permitted).
3. Legal bases (where applicable)
Depending on your location, we process personal data because it is necessary to perform our contract with you, to comply with legal obligations, for legitimate interests (such as security, fraud prevention, and product improvement), or with your consent (such as optional location or marketing, if offered).
4. How we share information
We may share information with:
- Other users — hosts and guests see limited profile and booking details needed to complete a stay (for example, name and chat messages). Listing photos you publish are visible to users of the Service.
- Service providers — hosting, databases, email, analytics (if used), and payment processors that process data on our instructions.
- Admins — authorized ShortRest administrators may access KYC, bookings, chats metadata, and payout requests to operate the marketplace.
- Legal & safety — when required by law, court order, or to protect rights, safety, and integrity of ShortRest and users.
- Business transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, subject to appropriate safeguards.
We do not sell your personal information.
5. Data retention
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes above, including to maintain accounts, complete bookings, meet accounting and legal requirements, resolve disputes, and enforce our Terms. KYC documents and transaction records may be retained longer where required for compliance or fraud prevention. When no longer needed, we delete or anonymize data where feasible.
6. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal information (including encrypted transport (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and access-controlled admin tools). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; please use a strong unique password and protect your device.
7. Your choices and rights
- Update profile details in the app where available.
- Control location and photo permissions in device settings.
- Disconnect Google Sign-In via your Google account permissions.
- Request access, correction, deletion, or a copy of your personal data by emailing privacy@shortrestapp.com or hello@shortrestapp.com.
We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling requests. Some data must be retained for legal, security, or accounting reasons.
8. Children’s privacy
ShortRest is not directed to children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
9. International transfers
Your information may be processed on servers or by providers in countries other than where you live. Where we transfer data, we take steps designed to protect it in line with this Policy and applicable law.
10. Third-party links and SDKs
The Service may link to third-party sites (for example, app stores or payment pages). Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies. Review Google’s and Flutterwave’s policies when you use those services.
11. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The effective date at the top will be revised when we publish changes. Continued use of the Service after an update means you acknowledge the revised Policy.
